Technical & Fundamental Coaches
The following coaches focus on advanced skills such as backhand, reverse slice, spin net, cross net, shadow footwork but they can also teach fundamentals to strengthen your foundation. Senior instructors are usually highly ranked athletes worldwide (BWF) or top tier in Alberta/Canada. Many are NCCP certified. Starting rate is $90 per hour.
Head Coach
KEVIN LEE
Kevin Lee is the head coach of Centre Avenue. He is one of the best, if not the best doubles and mixed doubles player in Canada and top 40 in the world (BWF). He is a gold medalist in men's doubles at the 2023 Yonex Canada National Championship in 2022 and 2023. He has also won the gold medal in mixed doubles at the Yonex Canada National Championship in 2023. In 2022 he represented Canada at the Thomas Cup in Thailand, Surdiman Cup in 2023, in Chengdu 2024 and Pan American Games in 2023 and 2024. He is a current member of Team Canada.

TIMOTHY LEE
Timothy Lee was Canada's former #1 doubles player in the u19 age category in Canada (2016). Along with his partner Jin Kim, they have won ASAA High School Provincial Championship three years in a row, and won two gold medals at the Yonex Alberta Provincial Junior Championship in u15 and u17 categories. As part of Team Canada, he represented Canada in Junior Pan American (PAN-AM) Games. Instructor since 2016.

Selected to be on Team Canada for Junior Pan American (PANAM) Games in 2016. Alberta Junior Provincial winner in singles and mixed doubles. Collegiate gold medalist in Canada. Ms Kwan is an accomplished athlete.

OSCAR WANG
Coach Wang joined Drivesports in 2013. He has won numerous competitions as a player and has taught more than three hundred students. Oscar is an NCCP-certified coach registered with Badminton Alberta. His students have won gold medals in provincial finals in u11, u13, and u15 singles & doubles.

BRANDON TANG
Brandon Tang is a gold medalist in singles at the ASAA High School Provincial Championship and is a dedicated coach with a passion for developing players' smashes and enhancing their singles game strategy. With a focus on training Competition II athletes Brandon also actively engages in sparring sessions with our competition players. Bringing his expertise and experience as an instructor since 2017, he strives to empower students and elevate their performance on the badminton court.

EASTON WATSON
Easton was a former Canada #3 singles player in u17. He has won over 3 provincial championships along with placing 5th at the 2018 junior Canadian nationals. Most recently he took 1st place at the 2022 Yonex Junior Championship in the u19 singles category. Easton has been with Drivesports for over 10 years and has been an instructor since 2021.

NATHAN APPAVE
Nathan Appave is a top ranked Alberta men's singles athlete (top 4 in 2024) and has over five years of coaching experience. He has taught over one hundred different students from beginners to skilled players, and also coaches the St. Mary's school team.

JASON CHIU
Jason Chiu brings over ten years of coaching experience and is actively competing. He is one of the top men's singles players in Alberta and has secured numerous victories including ACAC Provincial Champion (twice), CCAA National, ASAA Provincial Medalist (twice) and in his earlier days, City of Calgary Champion, Division 1 (three times). His deep understanding of the sport, enables him to train athletes of all levels to reach their full potential.

KATIE WATSON
Katie Watson is a junior player and one of our coaches. Katie has been with Drivesports for 10 years along side her brother, Easton. She has won over 3 provincial titles and also played in the 2017 Pan-American games in Toronto. This past year, she has travelled internationally to train and compete in tournaments.

JASON FANG
Jason Fang is a younger coach with lots of enthusiasm for the sport and is very well liked by students of all ages. He was also a Finalist in mixed doubles at the ASAA Provincial Championship. Coach Jason supervises our training program at Livingston Hub and at Foothills Alliance Church where he teaches youths between 6-14 year old. He is very patient and really good at getting youths interested in the sport.

JUSTIN CHEUNG
Justin Cheung is a distinguished coach with over seven years of teaching experience, most recently at a major badminton club in Ontario. During his career, Justin has taught over 300 students. He specializes in teaching children. Coach Cheung is patient yet has the right balance of fun and discipline. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

WONIK JIN
Wonik is a skilled badminton player. In singles, he plays a fast flat attack style. In doubles and mixed doubles, he is one of Alberta's top ranked athletes. He served in Korea's National Army (2022). Fluent in English and Korean.

NATHAN QUACH
Nathan competes at a national and provincial level within Canada. Currently, he is ranked #6 in Alberta for men’s Singles. Additionally, he is ranked #8 in the U23 men’s singles category. Nathan focuses on a good balance between developing technical and physical gaps that exist within a player. His goal is to fully develop a player in order for them to compete provincially and eventually nationally.
